SPHYRNIDAE
MANTELLA AURANTIACA
COCCINELLA NOVEMNOTATA
This series of paintings encompasses the themes of the extinction surrounding the topic of animals and insects, within the framing of specimen jars; a historical practice seen within the scientific community for extinct, endangered, and safe species. Within the interior and exterior of each jar are the causes of extinction for each subject.

MANTELLA AURANTIACA represents the status of the frog as endangered and close to extinction as a result of agricultural farming and rampant forest fires taking over their limited habitat.

COCCINELLA NOVEMNOTATA represents the status of the nine-spotted lady beetle as endangered as a result of pesticides, invasive species of lady beetles, such as the seven-spotted lady beetle, and parasitic Braconid wasps, which lay their young within the nine-spotted lady beetles.

SPHYRNIDAE represents the status of the hammerhead shark as critically endangered as a result of overfishing, coral bleaching, and ghost nets, which are fishing nets that have been abandoned or forgotten with time, continuing to capture and entangle marine life.
