Folkloric Plateware
This artwork belongs to a collection of plateware patterns depicting Slavic folklore, including Baba Yaga’s infamous traveling home, the Leshy, trickster and guardian of the forests, and the Gamayun, the symbol of wisdom and knowledge, who spreads divine messages and prophecies.
Each of these plates is hand-drawn and painted using light layers of gouache, which are slowly layered over time to create vivid and opaque colors. Using bold lines and strong colors, each plate revisits the traditional graphical art forms and stylizations popularized in traditional Slavic illustrations and crafts.
